This year, The Essential Theatre will be participating in Giving Tuesday to garner financial support for community-based programming. Created in 2012, Giving Tuesday has grown into a generosity movement allowing people across the globe to support their favorite charities. From global brands to small businesses, from celebrities to everyday grassroots givers, people will come together in a variety of ways to celebrate generosity, give back, and show kindness on November 28, 2023, for Giving Tuesday. It is about ordinary people working together to change the world. Help us inspire a wave of good by using your voice to help spread generosity.

Your generous donations will enable The Essential Theatre to:

• Continue to partner with community nonprofit organizations using our theatre offerings to support their missions.
• Provide free Children Programs.
• Offer free and reduced-priced performances for seniors, military personnel as well as those living on fix, low and moderate incomes.
• Develop public engagement programs connected to community issues to incite participation.

The Essential Theatre is a non-profit professional theatre dedicated, but not limited to producing theatre reflective of the African American experience that explores and celebrates America's rich, diverse cultural landscape. Paramount to the company’s mission is the implementation of programs for youth in Washington, DC's metropolitan area that promotes interdisciplinary education and positive self-esteem.

Founded in 1989, the company hosts a New Play Reading Series, Children and Young Audiences Programs and the Women’s Works Program. The company also maintains a relationship with community-based organizations to better align programs for community resonance. It is our belief that everyone should often experience theatre as a necessary part of life. Your participation in this year’s Giving Tuesday can make that happen.
